What is the right solar system for our business?

The number one thing to keep in mind when looking at a solar system installation for your business is that “you get what you pay for”.

There are plenty of cheaper systems out there in the market, but you need to have a long-term view for an investment of this nature.

Consider your consumption

The starting point when considering solar in your business is always looking at what your current consumption is, and are there any changes that might affect it. These changes could include things such as whether you are intending on expanding your business, or have new equipment in the pipeline that would increase your consumption.

If you have up-to-date metering on your property, then you will have consumption data in half hourly intervals that will show your daytime and night-time consumption. This in turn should then be matched against the predicted output of the proposed solar system. A bigger solar system isn’t always better.

Is battery worthwhile?

The next question is, will a battery system be worthwhile for your business? This will depend very much on your consumption profile and what sort of return on investment you are looking for.
You could benefit from solar system battery storge if you are wanting to reduce your night-time consumption.

Another consideration that may indicate that you’d benefit from having a battery would be blackout protection, because battery storage can act as a backup in the event that mains power is lost.

The best technology

The next thing that you need to consider is what the best technology will be for the ongoing management of the solar system.  A solar system should never be a set and forget thing; it is an electrical system with many active parts to it. It is important that you have the ability to see how your system is performing on a regular basis, whether there are any problems and, if there are, understanding who is going to fix them.

Unfortunately, this is an issue that we see missed all too often as installers disappear and won’t come back to fix issues.

At P4B Solar, our philosophy is that we are here to give you the best advice in designing your proposed system, the best value for your money, and then be here to look after you for the long term. We will check on your system every week, and get in contact with you if we note any issues.
